The project
FR : Not Just Hair ! est une série en motion design de plusieurs épisodes, retraçant les grandes périodes marquantes du cheveu texturé. En effet, le cheveu crépu, frisé s'inscrit dans une histoire et une identité singulière. Pourtant, il est encore aujourd’hui un sujet d’incompréhension voire de discrimination. La série Not Just Hair ! , veut déconstruire ces stéréotypes, en parlant de périodes marquantes pour la communauté noire en prenant pour fil conducteur le cheveu texturé. Ce projet est mon projet de fin d'étude, c'est pourquoi j'ai réalisé seulement l'épisode 5, mais par la suite je souhaiterais développer tous les autres épisodes.
EN : Not Just Hair! is a motion design series of several episodes, retracing the major milestones of textured hair. Indeed, kinky hair, curly hair is part of a singular history and identity. And yet, even today, it remains a subject of misunderstanding and even discrimination. The series Not Just Hair! series aims to deconstruct these stereotypes by talking about key periods in the history of the black community, using textured hair as a common thread. This project is my final year project which is why I've only made episode 5, but afterwards I'd like to develop all the other episodes.

EN : Before I start animating, I like to do quite a few sketches beforehand, so that I can get my ideas down.
FR : Avant de commencer l'animation, j'aime réaliser pas mal de sketch avant, ça me permet de poser mes idées.
EN : Huey P. Newton and Bobby Seale founded the Black Panther Party for Self-Defense. As well as denouncing police violence in California, they drew up a 10-point programme divided into 2 sections: "WHAT WE WANT NOW! WHAT WE BELIEVE", dealing with a wide range of social problems affecting African-Americans.
FR : Huey P. Newton, accompagné de Bobby Seale, fondent le Black Panther Party for Self-Defense. En plus de dénoncer la violence policière en Californie, ceux-ci rédigent un programme en 10 points divisé en 2 sections “WHAT WE WANT NOW !” WHAT WE BELIEVE”, traitant une grande quantité de problèmes sociaux dont les Afro-Américains sont victimes.
EN : In 1969, two thirds of the members of the Black Panther Party were women. Among them were two women activists who made a major contribution to this revolutionary movement: Kathleen Cleaver and Angela Davis. During a manifestation, the members of the Black Panther Party adopted the slogan "BLACK IS BEAUTIFUL". This slogan was a statement both to themselves and to people around the world who denied the beauty of black people.
FR : En 1969 deux tiers des membres du Black Panther Party étaient des femmes. On compte parmi elles deux femmes millitante activiste qui ont beaucoup contribué à ce mouvement révolutionnaire : Kathleen Cleaver ou encore Angela Davis. Les membres du Black Panther Party ont adopté lors d’une manifestation le slogan "BLACK IS BEAUTIFUL". Ce slogan était une affirmation à la fois pour eux-mêmes et pour les personnes dans le monde qui niaient la beauté des personnes noires.
